Winterplace: Snowy Wonderland

A ski resort for all people, big or small, young or old.

I was hanging 20 feet in the air with snow all around me. My heart was pounding and my hands were trembling. I was on the lift for the first time with my instructor at Winterplace. The trees were covered in icy white crystals. It took about 4 minutes until we reached the top of the mountain. It was sunny, but around 15 degrees.

Me and my family were at Winterplace because it was a 3-day weekend and we decided to go snowboarding. We drove a few hours from our home in North Carolina to West Virginia. We were planning to go for a while and took this as an opportunity to have fun and see snow since it was not going to snow in North Carolina. We stayed at a Hilton Hotel nearby.

Winterplace is a ski resort in West Virginia with skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing. On the first night, we all went snowtubing. There are 74 acres of skiable terrain open at night and 90 acres open all throughout the day. It was very exhilarating and really fun. We snowtubed for an hour.

The Next day I went snowboarding, as did my brother. Winterplace has 3 levels of hills; Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. This year I took beginner classes from Bryce, my instructor, and with another kid. We started by practicing to stand and glide on a level and smooth hill, and afterward went on the bunny hill. After that, there was a hill that was not as steep but more narrow, so it was very nerve-wracking, trying not to fall, but it happened anyway. I got a little better, but still needed practice, so Bryce took me on one of the 10 lifts to get up the mountain. We did not go on the longest trail out of all 27, which is 1 ¼ miles long, but still took 30 minutes to go down. After a couple of times, it got much easier, and only took around 20 minutes to get down. I did like taking lessons here.

On the last day, I went snowboarding with only my dad. It was snowing, but Winterplace does not stop making snow. We went on the lift from the day before and did that mountain a couple of times. It was -7 degrees, so we had to take breaks between each time and stay in one of the 3 restaurants in Winterplace. It was so much fun and I tried to make the most out of it.

I highly recommend Winterplace Ski Resort for anyone who is just starting to ski or snowboard, or if you just want to practice. It's a great place for all ages and skill levels. I enjoyed my time here so much that I definitely want to come back again in the future. The snowy wonderland at Winterplace is definitely worth experiencing!
